Honest comparison

The best FQHC billing companies in California.

Who each company is actually best for, including the cases where we aren't the right answer.

Who are the best FQHC billing companies in California?

For Southern California health centers wanting a Medi-Cal specialist, the regional specialists are MedBillPartner and The Medcor Group. For multi-state systems or centers wanting billing bundled with software, national firms such as Medusind, Aria RCM Services, Coronis Health, ADS RCM, and MedCare MSO are the main candidates. Fit depends on your structure, not on a single ranking.

Full disclosure: this guide is published by MedBillPartner, and we include ourselves in it. To keep it worth your time, we name real alternatives, say plainly who each company is best for, and tell you when a national firm is the better choice. Verify everything here against your own conversations; this page tells you which questions will settle it.

How we judged

Health center billing is a specialty, so we weighted the things that decide whether an FQHC actually collects what it earns:

  • FQHC-specific competence: per-visit PPS billing, wrap-around reconciliation, and California's APM, not just general claims processing
  • California Medi-Cal depth: whether the company works the county-by-county managed-care plan landscape or treats Medi-Cal as one payer
  • Service model: regional specialist with direct attention versus national scale with broader coverage; both are legitimate, for different buyers
  • What is included: denial resolution, credentialing, old accounts-receivable runout, and reporting, inside the rate or billed separately
  • What each company publishes about its methods, because a firm that explains its wrap-around process in public is easier to hold to it in private

Descriptions below are based on each company's own public positioning, reviewed August 2026. We have no inside knowledge of competitors' operations, and where their published detail is thin we say so rather than guess.

The companies

1. MedBillPartner, Inc. (that's us)

Best for: Southern California FQHCs, Look-Alikes, community clinics, and hospitalist groups that want a Medi-Cal specialist

Billing California health providers since 1988, based in Anaheim, and deliberately focused on Southern California. The work is the FQHC deep end: PPS encounter billing, wrap-around reconciliation, the state APM, cost report and audit support, and credentialing with Medicare, Medi-Cal, and commercial plans included in the service. Billing runs on Medi-Net, our own platform built in 1998, so leadership sees billed, paid, and owed in real time. Clients typically stay 7 to 10 or more years.

Worth knowing: Southern California is our focus. If you need multi-state coverage or want billing bundled with an EHR purchase, one of the national firms below is the better fit, and we'll tell you that on a call too.

2. The Medcor Group, Inc.

Best for: Southern California health centers that want a second regional specialist to compare against

An Orange County based company focused on FQHCs, community health centers, and rural health clinics. Its published services cover billing and RCM, credentialing, consulting, and UDS and cost reporting: the same shape we offer, with a local focus rather than national scale.

Worth knowing: the company publishes relatively little detail about its billing methods, so put the wrap-around reconciliation question to them directly and judge the specificity of the answer.

3. Allied Financial Service Health Centers

Best for: California FQHCs that want a third regional specialist in the comparison

A Temple City based billing company that says it serves FQHCs, community health centers, rural hospitals, medical groups, and IPAs across California. Together with The Medcor Group and us, it rounds out the state's small circle of regional FQHC specialists.

Worth knowing: its public material is brief, so bring the same wrap-around reconciliation question here too and judge how specific the answer gets.

4. Medusind

Best for: larger health center organizations that want a national RCM firm with a dedicated community-health division

A national, multi-specialty revenue cycle company with a practice area specifically for FQHCs and community health billing. For multi-site or multi-state organizations that want scale, dedicated account teams, and one vendor across specialties, it is one of the strongest national candidates.

Worth knowing: national scale cuts both ways. Ask specifically who will work your account and how deep their California Medi-Cal and county plan experience runs.

5. Aria RCM Services (CompuGroup Medical)

Best for: health centers wanting broad FQHC billing, enrollment, and credentialing support from a large vendor

The revenue cycle services arm of CompuGroup Medical, with a published FQHC practice covering PPS and APM billing, wrap-around reconciliation, UDS reporting, denial work, and credentialing.

Worth knowing: Aria's materials say it can work inside a client's existing system. Ask which tools and licenses the proposed service actually requires.

6. Coronis Health

Best for: organizations consolidating several specialties under one national billing vendor

A national RCM company covering many specialties, FQHCs among them, and publishing actively on health center billing topics. A reasonable candidate for organizations that want breadth and are comfortable being one specialty among many at their vendor.

Worth knowing: ask how much of the team you would work with does health center billing specifically, rather than billing generally.

7. ADS RCM (Advanced Data Systems)

Best for: centers that want billing services from an established practice-management software company

The billing services arm of a long-standing medical software firm, with FQHC billing among its advertised services. Similar shape to Aria: services and software from the same vendor.

Worth knowing: the same question applies, how strong is the service by itself if you don't adopt the software.

8. MedCare MSO

Best for: centers gathering a broad set of national quotes

A national medical billing company serving many specialties, including FQHCs, and a frequent presence in searches for health center billing. Worth including when you want several national bids to compare on inclusions and price.

Worth knowing: breadth again: press on FQHC specifics, especially PPS, wrap-around, and California experience.

One clarification while you research: Waystar, which appears in many of these searches, is revenue cycle software rather than an outsourced billing service. If you're looking for a company to run your billing, it belongs on a different list than this one.

Also on the radar: Community Link Consulting, a consulting firm with an FQHC billing practice, comes up often in these searches. If you want billing bundled with broader operations consulting, add it to your list and ask the same questions.

When a national firm is the better choice

Honest answer: sometimes it is. Choose a national RCM company when:

  • You operate health centers in several states and want one vendor and one contract across all of them
  • You want billing bundled with software from the same company, and you're committed to that software
  • You're consolidating many specialties beyond the health center under a single billing relationship
  • You prioritize vendor scale and standardized coverage over direct access to the people working your claims

When a California specialist is the better choice

Choose a regional specialist when the money in question is California money:

  • Your revenue lives in Medi-Cal PPS, wrap-around, and the APM, where the losses are quiet and the recovery is encounter-level work
  • Your denials depend on which county's managed-care plans you bill, because each county's structure differs
  • You want the people working your account to know your center, not your ticket number
  • You need cost report, audit, and UDS-clean data support from the same team that bills your encounters

That focus is the reason our own practice covers Southern California only.

How to verify any of them

Every company on this list, us included, should be tested the same way. Ask how they track and reconcile wrap-around payments against your PPS rate, who specifically will work your account, which of your county's Medi-Cal managed-care plans they bill today, what is inside the rate versus billed separately, and what happens to your old accounts receivable. Our guide to choosing an FQHC billing company covers the full question list with good and weak answers to each, and the switching guide covers what a safe transition looks like once you decide.

Questions, answered

Common questions.

Who is the best FQHC billing company in California?

There's no single best for everyone. For Southern California health centers that want deep Medi-Cal PPS, wrap-around, and APM expertise with direct attention, a regional specialist like MedBillPartner or The Medcor Group fits best. For multi-state health center systems that want one national vendor, firms like Medusind or Aria RCM Services are stronger fits. The decisive test is how well the company answers your wrap-around reconciliation questions.

Are national RCM companies a bad choice for FQHCs?

No. A national firm is often the right call for multi-state organizations, for health centers that want billing bundled with software from the same vendor, or for those consolidating many specialties under one contract. The tradeoff is usually depth on California specifics: county-by-county Medi-Cal managed-care plans, wrap-around reconciliation, and the state APM.

How much do FQHC billing companies charge?

Common pricing models are a percentage of collections, a flat monthly fee, or a per-claim rate. No model is automatically better. What separates quotes is what is included: denial work and appeals, wrap-around reconciliation, credentialing, and old accounts-receivable runout can be inside the rate at one company and billed separately at another. Always compare inclusions, not just percentages.

Do FQHC billing companies handle credentialing too?

Some do, some don't, and some charge for it separately. It is worth settling early, because enrollment gaps turn directly into unbillable visits. MedBillPartner includes credentialing and enrollment with Medicare, Medi-Cal, and commercial PPO and HMO plans as part of its core service.

How do we compare these companies fairly?

Ask every company the same specific questions and verify the answers instead of accepting them. The single most revealing question is how they track and reconcile wrap-around payments against your PPS rate. Our guide on choosing an FQHC billing company walks through the full question list and the good and weak answers to each.

Can we switch billing companies mid-year?

Yes. A competent successor runs alongside your current setup during transition so nothing is dropped, works your existing accounts receivable, and keeps encounter data continuous for reconciliation and UDS. Switching is a project, not a crisis, when it is staged properly.
